Delhi’s air quality deteriorates further as overall AQI reaches 320

The air quality of the national capital deteriorated further on Monday while remaining in the ‘very poor’ category as the overall AQI was recorded at 320. The concentration of PM10 and PM2.5 pollutants increased on Monday and as a result, the AQI rose up from 309 to 320.

According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research, the concentrations of the particulate matter with a diameter of 10 and 2.5 microns stood at 255, which falls in the ‘poor’ category and 146, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category.

According to SAFAR’s forecast, PM10 pollutants would increase to 293 on Tuesday and PM2.5 would rise up to 168, which comes under the ‘very poor’ category.

As per the forecast, PM10 pollutants would rise up to 314 during the week and PM2.5 pollutants would rise up to 170. SAFAR’s summary on Monday read, “The cold day conditions are forecasted to intensify in the Delhi region and surface winds are likely to slow down. So the current better dispersion conditions are likely to decrease. Hence, AQI is forecasted to deteriorate to middle end of Very Poor category on 21st Dec, and further deteriorate to the higher end of Very Poor on 22nd Dec and further deteriorate by 23rd Dec.”

Air quality in parts of Delhi

PM10 pollutants in Lodhi Road were recorded at 207, which falls in the ‘poor’ category and PM2.5 pollutants were recorded at 320, which falls under the ‘very poor’ category. In Mathura Road, PM10 pollutants were recorded at 276 and PM2.5 pollutants were recorded at 333, which comes under the ‘very poor’ category.
